Florida’s new offensive coordinator, Buster Faulkner, is widely regarded as one of the top offensive coordinators in the country. In 2025, he led Georgia Tech to the 11th highest average yards per game (460 yards per game). Through just three games this season, he has already amassed the 3rd highest average yards per game (544.3 yards per game) for Florida.
One aspect that makes his offenses so explosive is his Play-Action passing game. He excels at establishing the run and then setting up Play-Actions that complement the run game.
In 2025, he dialed up 124 Play-Actions (10.33 times per game) for 1,016 yards (8.19 yards per attempt), with a 52.42% success rate.
Florida has attempted 31 Play-Actions in 3 games of 2026, resulting in 365 yards gained (11.78 yards per attempt), a success rate of 58%, and a +0.74 EPA/play (the highest in the SEC).
Power Read
Buster Faulkner has dialed up Power Read 13 times this season, accumulating 86 yards (6.62 yards per carry). He will employ this concept with various formations and motions to establish the run, and then have multiple options to set up the Play-Action pass off of it.
Faulkner has successfully executed a Play-Action off Jet Power Read 5 times, accumulating 94 yards (18.8 yards per play). The key to Play-Action is convincing the defense that the routes are designed to block for the run. Faulkner often employs a tightend positioned on the frontside, appearing to block for the Power Read play. However, he then transitions into a seam route.
Below, Florida runs a PA Power Read Wave concept. In this play, the two wide receivers on the frontside clear out on post routes, while the receiver on the backside runs a crossing route. The linebackers flow so quickly with the Power Read action that the crossing route comes wide open behind them.
