Get Your Best Player the Ball

How Missouri OC Chip Lindsey Dials Cayden Lee Open

Missouri wide receiver Cayden Lee ranks third in the SEC with 522 receiving yards, racking up those numbers on 35 catches (14.9 yards per reception) and 4 touchdowns.

While the Tigers boast an effective ground attack and spread the ball around through the air, offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey clearly prioritizes getting the ball to his most explosive playmaker in Lee. Missouri ranks t-4th in the SEC in yards per pass attempt and 5th in passing yards per game, with Lee accounting for 38% of that aerial production.

Below is a breakdown of how Lindsey schemes Lee open across the field.

Stacks

At 5-foot-11 and 180 pounds, Lee possesses 4.3–4.5 speed and elite short-area agility. To utilize the entire width of the field, Missouri frequently aligns him outside in stack formations. This alignment keeps him clean against press coverage while unlocking switch and rub concepts.

Against Mississippi State, Lindsey dialed up a switch-release rub stack fade on 3rd & 7. The Bulldogs defended the look with bracket coverage in Cover 1. The switch release isolated Lee against the inside defensive back while creating a natural pick for his fade route. Because Mizzou deployed a wide stack, the single-high safety couldn't cover enough ground to contest the throw, allowing Lee to score and put the Tigers ahead by a touchdown.
